CSR is essentially adherence to the ten principles of the Global Compact, a strategic policy initiative of the United Nations for businesses committed to aligning their operations and strategies with universally accepted principles of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. By doing so, business, as a primary agent driving globalisation, can help ensure that markets, commerce, technology and finance advance in ways that benefit economies and societies across the world.
The UN Global Compact today stands as the largest corporate citizenship and sustainability initiative in the world with over 5,100 corporate participants and stakeholders from over 130 countries. It is a leadership platform, endorsed by Chief Executive Officers, and offers a unique strategy for participants to advance their commitments to sustainability and corporate citizenship. More than 600 Pakistani companies are signatories to the ten principles of the Global Compact.
Structured as a public-private initiative, the Global Compact provides a policy framework for the development, implementation, and disclosure of sustainability principles and practices by offering participants a wide spectrum of specialised work streams, management tools and resources, as well as topical programmes and projects to fulfill the initiative's overarching mission of helping in building a more sustainable and inclusive global economy.
